PENINSULA VALDES - 3 days / 2 nights
Day 01: Arrival in Trelew / Pto. Madryn Airport .
Excursion: Half-day tour to Punta Tombo penguin rookery
Punta Tombo, located 100 km. south of Trelew, is one of the largest colonies in South America of the Magellanic penguin, with more than one million animals. The colony of Punta Tombo is visited from September through March (the penguins' reproduction period). Within the reserve there are a series of paths where the tourists can walk virtually amongst the penguins. In September one can see males fighting for their territories and nests. In October one can see the pairs already formed and in November there are already thousands of eggs and young pigeons throughout the preserve. In February and March the young pigeons have developed adult size and are changing their plumage.
Return to the hotel. Accommodation.
Day 02: Breakfast.
Full day excursion “Peninsula Valdes” - Optional Whale-watching (Jul - Dec). Approximate time: 11 hours.
Tour: 400km apron. (half on tarmac)
We depart early in the morning to Puerto Pirámide. After travelling for one hour, we stop to see the whales on the ships. The boarding is usually first thing to take advantage of the weather conditions and if there is bad weather we can have the whole afternoon to try doing it. We use Jorge Schmid's Punta Ballenas fleet. From May to December there are boardings to see the whales and from December to March to see the seals, 'cormoranes', and, perhaps, dark dolphins.
After boarding we go to the south of the Peninsula , going past Big and Small Salinas. Reach Punta Delgada around midday to have free lunch at the Lighthouse complex and, then, go down the cliffs to walk near the sea elephants. Then we depart to Punta Cantor to see the external coast on the peninsula and get to the beginning of Caleta Valdés. We interpret the coast's geological formations and, as from there go back to Ameghino Isthmus. On the way we have the chance of seeing wild land fauna, like 'guanacos', 'choiques', foxes, 'maras', 'piches', 'zorrinos', etc.
We go back to Puerto Madryn city in the evening. Transportation to the Hotel. Accommodation.
Day 03: Breakfast. Transportation to the Airport for departure flight.
Note: All activities and excursions are subject to modifications without previous notice, as far as these are necessary to provide better service.
